(Image: Chapter 15, Peter, Jinx and Rachel.) In all the Halloween craziness I almost forgot to upload the chapter to Wattpad for you! Whoops. That's what reminders on smart phones are for. One of the few features I don't know how to live without. Hahaha! I guess I'd go back to wearing a wristwatch and setting alarms to remind me to check my paper to-do list.
Some interesting things to note about this chapter: while it's one of the few that kept the old illustration (actually three separate character concepts that I photo-shopped together back in the day), a lot of what happens in this and the next several chapters deviates from the original edition of the book, in execution if not in content. The reason being? When you're writing something at fifteen years old, the concept of a fellow teenager sneaking out to learn how to save the world seems totally legit. As a twenty-something, you see things a little different. Bennie might be totally fine with sneaking out, but the Guardians, especially Perce, who's charged with looking after her and also sees her as the daughter he never had, would not take that lightly. You get old and discover the real dangers aren't all demons and dark kings. So I completely changed Perce's approach to Bennie's situation, as a Guardian of special interested to Reyortsed, and as the child of an overprotective, and truth be told, traumatized mother. The Perce in my head seems a lot more comfortable with the new version than the old, as do I, and so I think the rewrite was a good move. There are perks to growing up! Your writing makes more sense. Hope everyone had a good and safe Halloween and for everyone participating in NaNoWriMo, good luck and happy writing!

(Image: Chapter 14, Bennie's laptop sits open on her desk, chat conversations scrolling across the screen.) Welcome back, and for those who observe the High Holy Days I hope this was a good season for you. I know it was for me--I got a lot done and had a lot of fun in the process. Now it's the march from the Holy Days to the Holidays! Bring on Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's!
There's something insanely fun about celebrating the New Year twice a year... Anyway, enough about that. I have news for you! The GOOD news is Chapter 14 is now online and we're resuming weekly updates. The BETTER news: you can now purchase Shadowchild in print or eBook format as a whole, if you're not into the weekly updates! The book will take a few weeks to show up on your favorite retailer's sites but in the meantime you can purchase it directly through my Storefront, and I'll keep the Books page updated as time goes on. Enjoy! Image: Chapter 13, Perce hears the scariest thing he's heard all night. You know, for someone who's been rattling around my head as long as he has (being the one character who actually preceded the creation of the trilogy), Perce is EXTREMELY hard to draw. I really wanted to get his expression down because his face is hilarious, but this is the best I can do. You'll just have to use your imaginations. ;)
