(Image: Chapter 19, Bennie and Peter hide behind a trash can.) Chapter 19 is up, and while nineteen is a lucky number for me, it may or may not be for Bennie--you decide!
Lots of action in this chapter, Bennie gets attacked by a monster and asked out by a guy. I'm not sure which is scarier! Confession: I have severe dating anxiety and I have no idea why or how to fix it. I guess I'll just be single forever. But that's ok, too. More time for writing. ;) This chapter was fun to write because the part where Bennie wakes up is loosely based on something that happened to me in the tenth grade. I wasn't knocked unconscious, but I was deep in sleep at 2 a.m. when a raccoon started tearing into the outer wall of the house. My dreaming brain tried to dismiss the sound as "just the rats in the walls, not a problem." Only, as I woke up further I realized that we didn't have rats and if we did, that would be a problem! I spent the next two hours hosing the raccoon off the side of the house. At least my "monster" didn't want to eat me, as much as the house's insulation!

(Image: Chapter 18, Bennie's kabobs on the grill.) I'm thinking about making this posting early a habit, or maybe posting on Tuesday evenings instead of midnight. We'll see.
I'm posting early because it's Thanksgiving week and in the shenanigans we have planned tonight I don't want to forget to put the chapter up on Wattpad, so it's up there now. :) So why not have the blog early? This entire chapter is actually added in, new, from the old version. Since we changed things up a bit with the way Bennie gets around to training. Since Perce is a good teacher, and wouldn't let her come if he knew she was sneaking. ;) It was also a nice way to explain a little background on Peter's backstory! Happy Thanksgiving, y'all! (Image: Chapter Seventeen, a Sword and a Battle-Axe) Chapter Seventeen is now up on Wattpad. While there's a bit of background information in this chapter and a little more mother bothers for Bennie, the primary focus of it is simply comic relief, and a little bonding time for Bennie with her new friends. Everyone needs a break, and that includes us in the real world, who have dark messes to deal with just like Bennie, but no superpowers. I hope my book helps you get a little break, and a few laughs.
Some backstory on this chapter: Like Bennie, I never played video or computer games. I still don't, partly because of the time involved, and also, a lot of them I can't even look at--the animation messes with my eyes. But also like Bennie, I did actually sit down with a buddy of mine and played a computer game (one guess which game) so I would have a real experience to derive the scene from. Everything that happens during Bennie's afternoon is based off the shenanigans we got up to during mine.. That, my friends, is called research. And it can be fun! You can't write what you don't know, right? Don't forget you can now purchase Shadowchild in whole via your preferred platform (links are available on my Books page). If you like it, please rate and review, or give a copy to a friend for the holidays! |
